2027 Chevrolet Equinox
Family-minded safety for Durham Region driving
Families in Whitby put a lot of kilometres on their vehicles, from school drop-offs on Brock Street to Highway 401 trips toward Toronto. The 2027 Chevrolet Equinox is a five-passenger compact SUV with a long list of standard safety features built for that pace. Chevrolet Safety Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Seat Reminder and Teen Driver come on every trim, along with all-wheel drive and a turbocharged 1.5L 4-cylinder engine. The 2027 model continues the current Equinox generation, which debuted for 2025, so the design and cabin layout carry over. Three trims are available: the LT, the outdoor-inspired ACTIV and the sport-styled RS. Each one uses the same 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD system, then adds different wheels, seating materials and comfort packages. An 11.3-inch touchscreen with Google built-in is standard across the range. Nurse Chevrolet in Whitby has the 2027 Equinox available now, and our team can help you compare the trims.

What’s new on the 2027 Chevrolet Equinox?

Exterior
Chevrolet gave the Equinox a broad, athletic shape inspired by its truck lineup, with squared wheel openings, strong fender lines and a shark-fin shape on the C-pillar. The three trims each have a distinct front fascia, so the family resemblance is clear while each version keeps its own character. Lighting is LED front and rear, and the headlamps add a walk-up animation and sequential turn signals. Practical touches include body-colour door handles, deep-tinted rear glass and solar-absorbing rear side windows that reduce sun and glare for rear-seat passengers.
The Equinox is 4,653 mm long, 1,902 mm wide and 1,666 mm tall on a 2,730 mm wheelbase. The ACTIV and RS have an AutoSense power liftgate that opens when it senses the key fob behind the vehicle, handy when your arms are full of groceries or sports bags, and a memory height function sets how far it opens. The LT uses a manual liftgate with the power version available. Wheels measure 17 inches on the LT and ACTIV, 19 inches on the RS, and 20 inches as an RS option. Front and rear splash guards are available to protect the paint from road spray.
Interior
Inside, an 11-inch driver information centre and an 11.3-inch touchscreen sit side by side, with the larger screen angled slightly toward the driver. Placing the transmission selector on the steering column opens a storage space below the screen. The rear centre armrest folds down to reveal two cupholders, and both front seatbacks have map pockets for books and tablets. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are standard, and the ACTIV and RS offer heated rear outboard seats with three warmth levels so second-row passengers stay comfortable on cold Ontario mornings.
Second-row passengers get 1,013 mm of legroom, 996 mm of headroom and 1,417 mm of shoulder room, while the front seats offer 1,039 mm of legroom. Behind the rear seats, the cargo area holds 844 litres. Folding the 60/40 split seatbacks increases space to 1,798 litres. A hidden storage area under the cargo floor helps keep emergency supplies organized, and available all-weather floor mats, floor liners and a cargo mat help protect the interior from slush and mud.

Powertrain
The Equinox runs on a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. Direct injection, variable valve timing and dual overhead cams are part of the design, and an 8-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels. Fuel consumption ratings are 9.6 L/100 km city and 8.1 L/100 km highway, with a 59-litre tank. Automatic Stop/Start can shut the engine off at a complete stop and restart it when you lift your foot from the brake. On a regular run along Highway 401 or Highway 412, the highway rating gives a useful reference for weekly fuel planning.
All-wheel drive is standard on every Equinox sold in Canada. It monitors all four wheels and adjusts to help maintain traction in rain, sleet and snow, including lake-effect snow along the Lake Ontario shoreline. The Drive Mode Selector lets the driver adjust how the vehicle responds to changing conditions. Automatic Vehicle Hold holds the Equinox in place after a stop without a foot on the brake. Front MacPherson struts and a 4-link rear suspension support the ride, and an engine block heater is available on all trims for easier cold starts.
Technology
Google built-in on the 11.3-inch screen offers voice recognition, navigation capability and connected apps, and each driver can save a personal profile. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard for compatible phones. Families on the move can use the Wi-Fi hotspot capability through 5G vehicle connectivity with a data plan, and USB ports in type-A and type-C formats keep devices charged. OnStar Basics includes up to 8 years of core services, including Automatic Crash Response. Remote Start lets you warm or cool the cabin before the family heads out.
Several standard features focus on family safety. Rear Seat Reminder prompts the driver to check the back seat before leaving the vehicle. Teen Driver provides an in-vehicle report card and mutes the radio until front-seat occupants buckle up, and Buckle to Drive briefly prevents shifting out of Park until the driver’s belt is fastened. Chevrolet Safety Assist includes Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. Rear Cross Traffic Braking and Reverse Automatic Braking help in driveways and school parking lots.

Versions
The LT is the foundation of the lineup, with cloth seats, a 6-way manual driver seat, single-zone manual climate control and 17-inch Grazen metallic machined-face wheels. Adding Convenience Package II brings an 8-way power driver seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging and the AutoSense liftgate. The ACTIV has its own outdoor-oriented front end, 17-inch Dark Android wheels with all-terrain tires and sueded microfibre seats. The RS stands apart with 19-inch Carbon Flash wheels, high-gloss black mirror caps, Evotex seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel, plus an available Black with Red Accents interior. Convenience Package III, offered on the ACTIV and RS, adds ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats and driver memory.
