Super Cruise is one of the most talked-about features in the Chevrolet lineup, but it’s not on every model. Knowing which vehicles offer it — and what it actually does — helps you decide if it belongs on your shopping list. Here’s a clear breakdown for Ontario drivers who want to understand the technology before they buy.
What Is Super Cruise?
Super Cruise is a hands-free driver assistance technology designed for compatible highways. When conditions are met, it allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel while the system manages steering, speed, and following distance on its own.
It uses GPS data, a high-precision LiDAR-derived map, camera and radar sensors, and a Driver Attention System to keep the vehicle centred in the lane. The Driver Attention System monitors the driver’s eye gaze to confirm attention is being maintained — the system will not function if the driver looks away for too long.
Super Cruise is active on more than 640,000 km of compatible highways across Canada and the United States — the largest hands-free driving network in North America. Map data updates automatically through the Chevrolet Connected Services plan.
What Can Super Cruise Actually Do?
Beyond basic hands-free steering:
- Lane Change on Demand: Activating the turn signal prompts the system to find a gap and change lanes without further driver input
- Automatic Lane Change: On properly equipped vehicles, the system detects a slower vehicle ahead, initiates a signal, changes lanes, passes, signals again, and returns to the original lane automatically
- Speed Management: Super Cruise works with Adaptive Cruise Control to maintain a driver-selected following gap and adjusts speed automatically for curves
- Trailering: Available on select Silverado and SUV models that support Super Cruise while towing a trailer
Which 2026 Chevrolet Models Offer Super Cruise?
Super Cruise is not available across the entire Chevrolet lineup. Here’s where it currently sits:
Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Available on the High Country trim. Includes a 3-year trial period.
Chevrolet Tahoe: Available on LT, Z71, Premier, and High Country trims. Not available on LS. A Super Cruise package is required.
Chevrolet Suburban: Available on LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country trims. Not available on LS. A Super Cruise package is required.
Chevrolet Traverse: Available on LT and Z71 trims; standard on RS. When standard, a 3-year trial of OnStar One is included.
Chevrolet Equinox EV: Available on both LT and RS trims. Includes a 3-year trial.
Chevrolet Blazer EV: Available on select trims.
Chevrolet Silverado EV: Available on LT Max Range and Trail Boss Max Range as standard; available on other trims.
What Super Cruise Is Not
Super Cruise is not a self-driving system. It does not replace the driver’s responsibility to pay attention. It will not steer around construction zones, objects in the road, or vehicles that have stopped. The driver must take control to merge, exit the highway, or respond to unexpected situations.
It will not activate without an attentive driver being detected by the Driver Attention System. Teen Driver mode must be turned off for Super Cruise to function. And it requires a Chevrolet Connected Services plan — either the included trial or a paid subscription after the trial expires.
How to Activate Super Cruise
Activation follows a simple sequence:
- Set Adaptive Cruise Control and confirm the green speed indicator on the instrument cluster
- When the white Super Cruise symbol appears, the system has detected a compatible highway and an attentive driver
- Press the Super Cruise button on the steering wheel — when the steering wheel light bar turns green, hands-free operation is active
To disengage: grab the steering wheel, press the Super Cruise button again, or apply the brake pedal.
